It has been another action-packed week with my colleagues on the Council and Town Hall Staff.

We ended last week with a Municipal Joint Services Board meeting and a regular Council meeting on Thursday. By the end of summer, a new MJSB website will be available to keep constituents informed about all aspects of MJSB, which encompasses more than just garbage collection.

On Monday, our Communications Committee met with the new Project Communications Specialist, on her first day, and representatives from the Mahone Bay Tourism and Chamber of Commerce to discuss optimizing communications.

We also had our regular Policy and Strategy meeting in the afternoon, allowing everyone to get home to vote or watch the election results roll in. Most of the time was spent on the in-depth work that the Climate and Environment Committee has been undertaking regarding the addition of a fifth pillar, primarily around environmental resilience, to our Strategic Plan.

Next week we have the Public Hearing on rezoning the Hawthorn Hill neighbourhood on Tuesday at 630 pm at the Fire Hall Community Room. On May 9th, we kick off budget planning. It has been delayed later than planned, but this is for good reason. The staff, province, and auditors are all working hard to bring us up to date as quickly as possible.

The NSFM 2025 Spring Conference, hosted by the Nova Scotia Federation of Municipalities, will take place from April 30 to May 2, 2025. Our Mayor and CAO will be participating.

As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns, and we will address them as soon as possible. This process may take longer than you might expect, given the number of stakeholders and procedures that must be followed.
